Meet Dagney Hamilton, a research scientist, whose team has created a promising new drug therapy to stem the mounting tide of obesity. When her employer, in a sudden and mysterious announcement, cancels the project, she suspects foul play and finds herself swept up in a tornado of powerful, unseen forces. She soon learns that a beneficial side effect of the drug threatens the profits and political interests of a multi-billion dollar industry. With billions of dollars and a Presidential re-election at stake, big business, big politics and big money will stop at nothing, including murder, to protect their interests. As a decorated police detective in a prior career, Dagney cannot be bribed, threatened or intimidated into silence or submission. Now, she must face her fears and her past as she gathers the courage to confront the people who want her dead. Dagney and her wisecracking detective buddy, Mark Stone, join forces with attorney Marcia Rothstein in a campaign against greed, corruption and illicit influence. Together they must solve the mystery of why curing obesity and saving millions of lives from conditions like heart disease, stroke and diabetes...isn't a good thing and might even get you killed. Dagney must use all of her wits and courage to stay alive, find the answers, bring those who would suppress the story to justice and ultimately find a way to unleash the life saving benefits of Epipro. Crafted in a style reminiscent of Crichton and Patterson with a measure of Tom Clancy, At just over 93,000-words, OCKHAM"S RAZOR takes the reader on a journey through both the science and politics of a new drug therapy as well as the dark under belly of Wall Street avarice.

I agree strongly with the other reviewers who were distracted by the countless spelling, grammar, and editing errors. I have to wonder whether this book was edited professionally. The first time I read the word "loose" when the author meant "lose," I thought it was just a typo. But, then it kept occurring--again and again. Then I read "Clift" notes instead of "Cliff" notes, I encountered sentences without periods...the list goes on and on. While I'm enjoying the fast-paced and entertaining story, it would be even more enjoyable if I didn't keep coming across so many distracting errors in the text. Too bad.

I am curious to hear if Amazon if ever got back to the other reviewers regarding its comparison of the Kindle and print versions. Are they the same?

Ockham Razor William Barrett Burton 9781452811260 Books Reviews

I really enjoyed this book -- more than I expected to. I am an acquaintance of the author and read the first chapter as a favor. But having read that, I had to buy the book ( version) and was soon engaged. I have to say that I was surprised that a first novel would be this good.

It's a well-crafted, clever story with unexpected twists. A revolutionary drug is mysteriously cancelled by the company, its team paid off to be quiet. Something is fishy -- and when the employees in the know don't comply, there are coincidental deaths and heroic acts. As the conspiracy unravels, desperate people with enormous resources come into play and the adventure begins. I don't want to say much more as the twists and turns are best left for you to discover.

I'll echo what others said, that this is really well done for a first novel. The characters, actions, and locations are extremely well described. There is enough detail to make it real, not so much to slow the action. The author doesn't describe the obvious. He engaged my imagination. The background material was pretty amazing -- very realistic behind the scenes detail for the police work, aircraft and boat scenes, corporate security gone over-the-top-black-ops, political and corporate inside views. Even the science background about epigenetics was realistic.

The characters were a bit cartoonish at times, especially the smart aleck detective, but it didn't compromise the story. It reads easily, through to a satisfying finish.

As other reviewers have said, there are quite a lot of errors but it's minor if the reader can keep them from being a distraction. The important factors -- the story, the twists, the characters, the way he described the people, places, and action -- are excellent and in the end, I found the book worth my time and hoping he writes another. With an editor, this time.
Characters are cardboard & predictable and the reviewers here are all friends of this writer.
Save your money. Book was a waste of time!
I give the author one star for nerve.

After reading the sample, I purchased the book based on all the 5 star reviews. Purchased, as in downloaded it to my . I have only read 16% of book to locations 913-19. I have counted at least 8 glaring spelling errors. The errors in punctuation are countless. It is now a distraction to what could be a reasonable story.

I am a new owner. It has me wondering if the print copy of the book has the same errors. What has happened to spell/grammar check? Is good editing a lost art?

AN ADDENDUM TO ABOVE REVIEW I gave the author the courtesy of finshing book. John Grisham does not have to worry about competition. OMG - I was screaming out loud about the misspellings, punctuation and grammar errors by the time I finished the book. The author admits in his bio blurb that he never received higher than a D in English class. Does that excuse him? I don't believe so; we deserve better.

rep has agreed to compare print copy to to see if this is an isolated case of really poor editing by the publisher.
Great story with believable character development and timely commentary on conflicts within corporate culture. The strength of individual with courage to have a positive impact is well presented.
I heard about this book on an unrelated site and decided to check it out. With only one review so far, it was almost an act of faith for me to buy it on my . I am glad I did. By the way, I just love that i could hear about a new book and be reading it a few minutes later. It still boggles my mind.

Ockham's Razor is a terrific book, with well defined characters and a plot that moved along at a good pace. I read it in one sitting and never felt like going to bed was a better option than finishing the book. I stayed up until 3 AM to finish it which, to me, says a lot about losing myself and getting involved in the story.

I noticed a couple of minor typos but they did not distract me from the story and other than that the editing was crisp.

I feel like I just discovered a major new author that I like as much as John Sandford or James Patterson. I look forward to his next book.
I found the book interesting and the story believeable, but it is obvious to me that this was a self-published book and it is obvious the author really did get only D's in English!
I suggest the author, should he decide to write another book, FIND A PUBLISHER!!!
I bought a and was looking for something "free" to start with. I was intrigued by the title and downloaded it not noting it an excerpt. I was hooked after those first few pages and gladly bought the book. I cannot put it down (impatient that I had to stop to charge the battery!). If this becomes a series, I would definitely follow along.
